The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival will take place from 13 to 24 May 2025. The French Film Festival is known to be an exciting time for cinema lovers, as the filmmakers and the cast put their best foot forward in the projects that are screened. French actress Juliette Binoche will serve as jury president for the main competition. The Honorary Palme d’Or will be awarded to Robert De Niro during the festival’s opening ceremony.
One day after the announcement of the ACID official selection, Palestinian photojournalist Fatima Hassouna, one of the main subjects of the documentary film Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk by Sepideh Farsi, was killed along with ten members of her family in an Israeli airstrike on their home in Gaza City on 16 April 2025. The festival released an official statement expressing condolences and criticizing the ongoing violence in Gaza.
The festival will open with the French comedy film Leave One Day by Amélie Bonnin.
This year’s American troop is huge. Starting off strong on Tuesday, Tom Cruise will be stepping in with the final chapter of the Mission Impossible Franchise. The team is hoping for a loud response for the Final Reckoning, as did Top Gun: Maverick three years ago.
