Jodie Foster-Special guest of the Opening Ceremony and the Honorary Palme d’or of the 74th Festival de Cannes

Following Jeanne Moreau, Bernardo Bertolucci, Jane Fonda, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Manoel de Oliveira, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Agnès Varda and Alain Delon, Jodie Foster will receive the Festival’s Honorary Palme d’or in recognition of a brilliant artistic journey, a unique personality with a modest yet strong commitment to some of the major issues of our time.

Guest of honour at the Opening Ceremony which will take place on the stage at the Palais des festival on Tuesday, July 6, the director, actress and American producer will kick-off the 74th edition which will draw to a close on Saturday, July 17th with the awards’ list given by the President of the Jury, Spike Lee. Dua Lipa has topped the winners at the 2021 Brit awards, calling for Boris Johnson to approve “a fair pay rise” for frontline NHS staff as she picked up gongs including the top prize of British album for her chart-dominating disco spectacular “Future Nostalgia” She also won female solo artist, bringing her total Brit award tally to five and cementing her position as one of the UK’s most successful and critically acclaimed pop stars. 2020’s heavily male ceremony reversed with wins for Arlo Parks, Haim and Billie Eilish, as Little Mix become first all-female winner of British group. Re-opening news from Serpentine Gallery London!

Serpentine’s doors will open again on Wednesday 19 May with two outstanding exhibitions: James Barnor: Accra/London – A Retrospective at Serpentine North, and Jennifer Packer: The Eye Is Not Satisfied With Seeing at Serpentine South. From today, you can book FREE tickets to visit between 19 May and 6 June. The Marché du Film will take place as usual alongside the Festival in Cannes from 6 to 15 July 2021. Due to the unusually long delay between the EFM in Berlin and the Marché du Film in Cannes (6-15 July), many international sales agents have expressed the need for an intermediate event in the spring, which will allow them to do business and to network virtually, while awaiting the big rendez-vous in July when the film industry will meet up again in large numbers.

President of the Jury Spike Lee returns for the 74th Festival de Cannes.

The Festival de Cannes is delighted to confirm that the American Spike Lee will be the President of the Jury of its 74th edition, which will be held this year from July 6 to 17, 2021. Loyal to his commitments, the American director promised to support the Festival on its return to the Croisette. Prevented last year due to the health crisis, the Festival de Cannes inaugurates this new decade with an outstanding President of the Jury, one of the greatest directors of his generation, as well as a screenwriter, actor, editor and producer. For 30 years, the tireless Spike Lee has been an astute chronicler of the questionnings of his time, with a resolutely contemporary approach that’s never without a dash of levity and entertainment.
