Four voices and four languages marked the start of the 74th Festival de Cannes!
The 74th Cannes Film Festival kicked off in earnest Tuesday evening as big names came out to support the event that’s just getting back to business after last year’s cancellation and this year’s delays. Assembled together, 2019 Oscar and Palme d’Or winner Bong Joon-ho Cannes veteran Pedro Almodóvar, jury president Spike Lee and the night’s honorary Palme d’Or recipient Jodie Foster paid tribute to the event and officially opened the 2021 proceedings in a mix of Korean, Spanish, English and French.The emotion was palpable in the Grand Théâtre Lumière for the return of the Festival to Cannes after its cancellation last year due to the global pandemic. Guest of honour at the Opening Ceremony which will take place on the stage at the Palais des festival on Tuesday, July 6, the director, actress and American producer will kick-off the 74th edition which will draw to a close on Saturday, July 17th with the awards’ list given by the President of the Jury, Spike Lee. Even before the curtain fell, this year’ Oscars attracted a lot of labels. Oddest Oscars ever! That seemed fair: no hosts, no songs, just 170 guests clapping in a train station. Re-opening news from Serpentine Gallery London!
Serpentine’s doors will open again on Wednesday 19 May with two outstanding exhibitions: James Barnor: Accra/London – A Retrospective at Serpentine North, and Jennifer Packer: The Eye Is Not Satisfied With Seeing at Serpentine South. From today, you can book FREE tickets to visit between 19 May and 6 June. Tickets for later dates in June and throughout the summer will be released regularly, so check back regularly.
