The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, a commune that borders on Monaco. The event is part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. The tournament is played on clay courts and is held every year in the April–May period. The Rolex Monte Carlo Masters has been one of the most prestigious events in the world of international tennis for over 100 years. This June, Christie’s presents The David Gilmour Guitar Collection: the personal guitar collection of the rock ‘n’ roll legend David Gilmour — guitarist, singer and songwriter of Pink Floyd. With more than 120 guitars, including his preferred Fender models of Broadcasters, Esquires, Telecasters and Stratocasters, the auction on 20 June marks a rare opportunity for guitar aficionados, musicians and collectors to explore one of the world’s most comprehensive groupings of guitars that hooked generations. In advance of the New York sale, the entire David Gilmour Collection will be exhibited at Christie’s London followed by the 10 most iconic guitars in Los Angeles and will conclude with a full preview in New York. Estimates start at $300 with proceeds to benefit charity. 
The line-up for this year’s festival suggested a renewal for the world’s most famous festival. With innovation and discoveries the promise at a decidedly not on-demand festival, Cannes seems to have decided to burnish its leadership credentials As ever, there were new films from world-renowned filmmakers (Terry Gilliam, Lars von Trier, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Asghar Farhadi, Jean-Luc Godard and others), but the organisers have also clearly made an effort to include less familiar names among the 21 filmmakers vying to win the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top award. Still a necessary talking-point, though, is the lack of women (just three) among those 21 contenders. Over 70 years, the festival has expanded to fulfil many sets of expectations: red-carpet black-tie glamour from the biggest movie stars, breaking news and celebrity interviews for 4,000 global press, a vital film market for international buyers and sellers, and of course the films that will be assessed by the media and world’s most exacting critics. This year, the jury to award the festival’s big prize, the Palme d’Or, is headed by Cate Blanchett.
