Top Gun: Maverick and Tom Cruise at the 75th Festival de Cannes

Tom Cruise will be in attendance in Cannes on May 18, 2022 for the screening of Top Gun: Maverick, scheduled for release on May 25 in France and May 27 in the US. The Festival will also pay a special tribute to Tom Cruise for his career.

Top Gun hero Maverick, will be back in cinemas all over the world and Tom Cruise will return to the Festival de Cannes where he has made only one appearance before: on May 18, 1992, for Ron Howard’s Far Away, the closing film of the 45th Festival. That evening, he had awarded the Palme d’or to director Bille August for his film The best intentions.

England’s tour of the West Indies concludes with a three-match Test series starting this Tuesday, 8th March, at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua. Having lost the Ashes 4-0, Joe Root’s side are in desperately need of a Test victory. The West Indies vs England 1st Test will be played from 8th-12th March 2022 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua. The 2nd Test will be played from 16-20th March 2022 at Kensington Oval, Barbados. The series wraps up with the 3rd Test from 24-28th March 2022 at National Cricket Stadium, Grenada. Read more

The Academy Awards nominations were announced this Tuesday, February 8th in Los Angeles. The Festival de Cannes is delighted to see the films of the Official Selection, represented in 7 categories: Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature, Best Animated Feature, Best Directing, and Best Picture.

The film Drive my Car by Ryusūke Hamaguchi, selected in competition and named Best Screenplay by Spike Lee’s Jury in 2021, gathers 4 nominations in the Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Feature films categories and in the prestigious Best Picture category, asParasite by Bong Joon-ho, Palme d’or in 2019. The Japanese director is also nominated for the Best Directing and will be alongside the filmmakers Paul Thomas Anderson, Kenneth Branagh, Jane Campion and Steven Spielberg. Read more
