The 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival wrapped with jury president Alejandro González Iñárritu announcing the group’s unanimous decision to award the Palme d’Or to South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho for his sly, politically charged “Parasite.” Following last year’s win for humanistic Japanese drama “Shoplifters,” the well-reviewed Asian thriller represents the yin to that film’s yang: the story of a lower-class family who try to improve their social situation by infiltrating a rich household. The dark comedy centres on an impoverished family of hustlers who move into the home of a wealthy entrepreneur, his wife and two children.

Claire Denis and the Jury have announced the winners of the 22nd Cinéfondation Selection

The Short Films and Cinéfondation Jury headed by Claire Denis and including Stacy Martin, Eran Kolirin, Panos H. Koutras and Cătălin Mitulescu, has awarded the 2019 Cinéfondation Prizes during a ceremony held in the Buñuel Theatre, followed by the screening of the winning films.
The Cinéfondation Selection consisted of 17 student films, chosen out of 2 000 entries coming from 366 film schools around the world.
